Amplifying South and Southeast Asian Voices

“Weaving Identities,” an initiative by the Ujyalo Foundation, seeks to combat racial injustice and improve representation for South and Southeast Asian immigrants in the Denver area.

This project’s core goal is to bring the stories and narratives of these communities to the forefront, enabling documentation and shared action planning.

Addressing Disaggregated Data and Underrepresentation

The initiative specifically addresses the critical issue of data and narrative gaps. South and Southeast Asians are often overshadowed when grouped under the larger AAPI (Asian American and Pacific Islander) population. This lack of specific data leads to generalized interventions that frequently miss their unique needs.

While Asians comprise about 4% of Colorado’s population, South Asians have even less visibility and are historically under-resourced. The term “Asian” often defaults to referring to East Asians.

Help Us Archive New Unheard Narratives.

Your Support Will Bring Unheard Stories to the Front Line.

Our stories matter. For too long, our South Asian communities have been under-resourced, underfunded, and misrepresented by incomplete data. Storytelling is the powerful medium we use to capture the full, lived experiences that numbers simply cannot explain.

The Storytelling Project documents the challenges, achievements, and contributions of our members, ensuring their narratives are archived for us and for generations to come.

We need your help today. We are raising $10,000 to create 40 vital stories from women, girls, and nonbinary individuals living right here in Colorado.

Make a contribution now so we can share these unheard narratives and bring their unique journeys to the front line!
